The most competitive category in the year's Lardies was the coveted "Best DVD" title, which is shared by We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen and Criterion's new 3-disc edition of Seven Samurai. By some no-doubt significant quirk of synchronicity, the two finest DVD releases of 2006 have very similar cover artwork: stark, monochromatic designs with the titles in white script lettering against a black background.
