A popular actor throughout the golden age of Japanese cinema, Hasegawa had prestigious leading roles in Kinugasa's Gate of Hell and Mizoguchi's The Crucified Lovers. He bore a bit of a resemblance to Shintaro Katsu, with whom he co-starred in several features such as Kazuo Mori's Jirocho Fuji films.
